How did the deer winter?

I have been over to Winthrop a few times this winter and the deer looked in good shape.  Now that the worst is behind us, anyone hear how the herds are doing?  I expect better than the last couple of years, I hope...  Anyone seen or heard any different?

I know the Yakima area deer didn't have a good winter.  I heard the WDFW predicts a 50% die off this winter, but who knows.

I was in Winthrop, and did a little hiking around, saw quite a few deer, and TONS of yearlings, which is good.

Chelan CO got lucky two years in a row.... did some hiking over spring break and every deer I saw looked fat and happy...

Michael,  You guys must be living right in Chelan Co.  I was over there several times this winter and the hills were bare or nearly so around Cashmere and Chelan.

I worry about the Northeastern part of the state.  Record snow in Spokane and even more north of there; can't be good.

The NE part of the state is not doing good from what I hear... this is two years in a row that they've had huge amounts of snow fall... the deer are hurting and the seasons on the bucks up there isn't helping out the buck crop at all... they're getting hit from both sides.

Yeah I'm from Wenatchee, thought you knew that?  I'm down here in Moscow ID right now going to college, but go back up to the 'valley ever month or so.  You gonna be up around 'there' this september again???

I don't think you ever have to worry about the deer in colfax they have plenty of low land and feed no matter what!

I think the opposite is true.  The winter over here was really mild compared to the last couple of years.  I think the deer in the Yakima/Kittitas Counties will have done better than compared to recent years.  I've been up looking at deer and elk and all of the deer that I have seen have been in really good shape.  And for the hair loss I havn't seen any that looked like they had it this year except maybe one but she could have just been changing coats.  Last couple of years I've seen a bunch with the hairloss but not this year. 

December and part of January was a little rough but they still had fat stores.  Since then the hillsides have been pretty bare.  So I think our herds here are going to be in pretty good shape for the 2009 hunting season. 

But then again what would you know about that your a wheat field hunting white tail slayer.  Not a hard corps desert muley sniper such as myself.

If I were to rate winter on eastside.....

Entiat faired GREAT like last year
Chinook faired well as did the central wheatlands
Colville had a tough winter but faired better than I figured
Methow got hammered
Blues...Unknown, haven't been there at all this year

the deer in kapowsin are looking good, expect to see a bunch a fawns again this year. last year saw a little better than a dozen doe's with two fawns and a whole bunch of singles

Blues...Unknown, haven't been there at all this year

There are no deer left in the Blues.  The cougars ate them all.  None left for the snow to kill.

I live in davenport 60 miles west of spokane.  We got more snow than spokane deer did NOT do well lots of die of.  Even the deer around lake Roosevelt did poor hard to eat in 5 feet of snow.
