So if you have COPD, die due to respiratory failure while infected with Covid, what's the cause of death?

I could argue that Covid was the contributing factor and Respiratory failure was the cause.  :dunno:

I would say that COPD was an underlying factor (as are diabetes and immune disorders) that can be aided with medical treatment and that the arrival of COVID overwhelmed the body's systems and actually caused the death. No COVID, the person would have lived longer.

My grandfather passed while living with COPD (8 years ago).

He got the flu, then pneumonia, then passed.  His cause of Death was described by his Dr as "Respiratory Failure"  Not the Flu, or pneumonia.

According to the stories passed down my grandmother was very sick as a child during the Spanish Flu Pandemic, So far she has not had this latest Flu.

She is healthy right now, if she gets the Wu-flu and dies that is what did it.  If she gets hit by a bolt of lighting then that did it. If she passes in her sleep and was not being treated for anything then old age is the cause.  Granted at 105 she is way more at risk from a great deal of things I imagine, but cause of death should not change based on age because at what age do we start?

That's my opinion, why over complicate things?
