Knife cleaning question
« on: May 02, 2020, 07:13:54 PM »
Hey knife peeps,
So I picked up this knife while I was traveling around India. I really like it, but the blade looks like it could use a bit of a cleaning / polish. It looks to have a demascus blade and I was thinking it might be nice to have it stand out a bit more.. when I bought it the old man hit it with some fine grit sandpaper and a bit of oil for me, but it’s still a little dull looking. Any thoughts on the safest way to clean it up a bit or if I even should? He told me the sheath and handle were made of silver. Don’t know if I believe that, but either way, I think it’s a sweet knife. Thanks!

This was toward the end of the trip and my negotiating skills were legit. I payed a few less Rupees than he was asking though.

Thanks for all the advice. So if I try the toothpaste, I just use it with a rag and wipe off with water when done?

Yeah, or a toothbrush.  It cleans up fishing lures like a charm too and it's not too abrasive.

Goddard's Silver Polish.  I had a sword my grandpa passed along to me that I took in to a well known shop in Chicago to get restored and he just handed me that and said to do it myself as it's easy and he didn't want to charge me.  I thought it was going to be a serious job, but it only needed an hour or so to get it in the best condition possible.

It's one of only one or two polishes for silver that work but do not damage or remove too much stuff.  That's according to the guy at the shop, I just used it and it works incredibly well.
