Mobile Mechanic in Seattle area
« on: June 01, 2020, 08:02:23 AM »
My Fiances daughter lives in a Seattle and has a ford focus, sounds like she has put a couple batteries in it which die so I am thinking alternator is shot but need to get it looked at. Want to get it fixed if that is the problem so we can sell it.  We are in Yakima and not a motor head so driving over and me looking at it would do no good. Anyone reccomend anybody?

What year is the Focus?

If it's a 2012 or newer, it's entirely possible, or even probable that it has an issue with the transmission control module and not the battery at all. It gets disguised because a lot of the times, a jump start will temporarily "fix" the problem.  If it's a 12 or newer, shoot me the VIN # in a pm and I'll see if I can help.

Let me know. Mistaken dead batteries happen all the time on Focus. There is an extended warranty through Ford on most of them for the TCM due to the commonality of the issue. 10 years or 150k miles.

OK. It's a totally different setup then. Doesn't have the same TCM. If she can get it to Bellevue, I can get one of my guys to look at it. We don't have any kind of mobile service though.
If it runs and drives once it's started, and there are no battery lights on while it's running, odds are high that the alternator is fine. Might want to check wherever the last battery was purchased for warranty coverage. A lot of them have tow coverage as well.

@coachcw

He's a member on here, and although not mobile, I would have my vehicle towed there (and I have) for an honest and competent job, seven days a week and twice on Sunday.

Mine went dead,hard to jump, turned out to be corrosion on cables,I also check with a cheap volt meter before I do anything.
