Trail Camera Card Size

Hey guys, i am going to get some cams set but havent done it where i let them soak long before. I am planning on 1 month soaks before i check them again. What size SD card should i be putting in?

16 or 32 you will be fine.

And your cam may be only able to handle a certain size anyway.  Most will take up to a 32.

IMO - If you are taking photos 16g is plenty, if you set it to take video you may want to use a 32g, this depends if the cam is going to be triggered pretty often, if you don't think it will be triggered that often 16g will be plenty even for video. Get the faster cards, get an ultra or extreme card, your photos are way faster to download.

You can get ultra class 10 16g cards on ebay or walmart for about $6-$10.

Check your camera for compatibility....most won't take over a 32.  I run 8's in my cams that are not in high traffic areas and 16's in my cams over my corn feeder and food plot.  I have had 3-6 month soaks and never ran out of card space.

Ok, mine will hold up to a 32gb card. I went with that just to be safe on size. Good to know I shouldn't have to worry about filling it up.

16 is more than plenty for image capturing for multiple months of trail camming.  You'll have a hard time filling one up.  I actually use a high resolution setting and have not had a 16G card fill up on my Idaho cams (I put them out mid July and change em out when I arrive in mid-SEP).  I have however, smoked a card if set on VID though  .  16M is the new normal I think (used to be
8's) with 32's becoming more and more populate.  I don't own any 32's but if I was more into VIDs, I'd probably go with 32's.  Happy camming!

What s your spacing of time between pictures?  I just changed my camera from 30 seconds to 1 minute

If you have images/VIDs on a card and put it back in a cam, those previous pics/VIDs remain and you'll be "adding" new pics/VIDs to the card.  You have to physically delete each image or VID on a given card before it goes away for good and frees up space on a card.

Most cameras have a delete feature.   You will find it easier to switch cards and delete them at home after looking and saving images you want to keep.

Alot of cameras make it so you can format them in the camera

I have taken a small usb card reader and a tablet with me to check cams. Save whatever pics you want to the tablet, delete the rest and pop the card back in. Harder to do if it’s raining. Another option is to get 2 cards per camera and just swap em. I just like to see what’s going on and evaluate if I want to
Move the cam somewhere else.

I run almost all 32gb cards, running almost all video on my cams though. they are high traffic areas and video just shows alot more than a photo.. I've had two cams on the same set and its incredible how much you miss with photos over just a 10sec video.
i also take a card reader and have in the past taken one of the tiny compact laptops to check my cams, that way i can delete or clear cards on the spot, or even pull it if i have nothing but junk.
