Cot pads
« on: August 11, 2020, 08:22:53 PM »
First things first, I’m not in love with my cot but my wife bought it for me years ago so....I’m looking for a good pad. I didn’t start using it until 2 years ago and last year a bear took off with my exped megamat among other things. To be honest, it was really uncomfortable. Not looking for a backpacking mat; just something affordable, thick and good for a side sleeper. Any suggestions?

Buy a soft 3"×30"×80" foam pad.
The end.
Warm, soft, cheap, awesome.

I use the Teton Sports camp pad. Seems to work just fine and I haven't woke up with a flat pad in a while.

Well if you can drive to camp. I would buy a high loft sleeping bag and use that for a pad.
Side sleeper too and that’s my set up.

If you're truck camping on a cot, there's no reason to use an inflatable mattress. Like 2many said, big foam pad and done. Get it at Freddie's for like $20. If you're a real pansy like me, get 2.

I don’t think they make it anymore but it’s not very wide and it has bars at the head and feet. I just realized I could leave those out for better comfort 🤷🏻  I think either way, it’s not quite wide enough for moving around. For reference, I’m 5’10” and 175.

I think you'll find if you take the poles out from the ends, your useable length will actually decrease. For sure you'll lose your pillow at least once or twice a night. It also will rock around more on you, feeling way less stable.

By an oversized pad and you will add length and width.....I am 6 foot 270 lbs and I fit on the small cots with my pad.  I prefer my mondo humungo cabelas XL cot but I can sleep on the small ones with an oversized pad.  As for the pillow falling off.....I found the perfect solution to this two years ago.  You can thank me later.....It has a built in pillow holder.

I own two XL bags and two of the top quilts accessories.  Best bags on the market for truck camping in my humble opinion.

I've used one of these on my base camp cot for the past 3-4 years.  Comes with a battery powered pump that makes inflating easy as pie.  I think you can find em' at Wally World for around 25 bones if I remember right.  Comfortable?  Oh boy...…. :chuckle:

I use an REI self-inflating 2in. pad inside my cot.

We use the foam pads sold near the hardware section at Fred Meyer. We also put a backpacking pad underneath to prevent moisture from getting the foam wet.
