First official furbearer
« on: December 13, 2020, 09:46:20 AM »
I have lurked in the shadows for a while now reading and learning this crazy hobby of trapping from this page. I have met some of you in person and others have pointed me in the right direction and I would just like to say thank you. Its been very fun learning and figuring out how all this work. I definitely look at the woods a little differently now.

I set up a trail cam with a bait station up in a tree and let is soak for 2 weeks. I covered the bait with some tree branches to avoid the aerial preditors. A hawk must have been spying on me :chuckle:. He was at the bait an hour after I left. I had put a good chunk of skunky lure up as well. So multiple videos of a hawk messing with my bait and then night falls and low and behold 2 civit skunks desperately trying to climb the tree. They would try just about every night. Over the corse of the 2 week soak i got the the skunks, a big wooly coon and 1 maybe 2 bobcats. Pulled the camera and put in a few sets

I checked every 2 days in anticipation. First check nothing :'( Second check nothing  :'( Third check. Bingo. Must be a lucky box because my 3 year old thought he would help by coloring it with his crayons. I heard the second skirt off on my third check so I left the other box in place with plans to check the next day. Sure enough, there it is. Thanks again to the guys on this page

Very nice! I remember my first civet cat. That was back in the '70s. Trapping is a way of life and so much fun

A spotted skunk was my first catch also; back in 1968.
Remember it like it was yesterday.
Congrats

Because I have received a number of PMs about this, the trap is a KORO Rodent trap. Legal trap, we have a letter from the Director approving their use. Not a conibear of any size which would not be legal.

Cool.  I assumed it was a regular rat trap in there.  I had not heard of these before.
