300 Blackout (AAC BLK)
« on: April 10, 2021, 06:01:11 PM »
Many 300BLK shooters here?

Bought a Daniel Def. DDM4 PDW 300BLK and now I'm trying to decide what to put on it for an optic.  Red dot, Holographic, prism ahhh to many options.  What have y'all been using on AR pistol, regardless of caliber, and what are your likes/dislikes of those that you have or have used?

Trijicon mro for bombproof

Primary arms makes a good 2moa dot for around 150$. Seems well built

i did the eotech 300 blk specific sight and a 3 x magnifier that flips to the side. sight has 2 dots each set for subs and supers at different ranges. using 110 supers and 220 subs it’s really spot on.

The main appeal of .300 blk is the ability to jump back and forth between subs and supers. You need some kind of dot system to learn drops on subs at range. I like a low power second focal plane variable with mil dots which will remain constant at max magnification.  Just shot a bunch of .300 blk today. It's an extremely efficient little round.

I have shot a lot of blackout.

Fun to shoot but it can be a picky round in short barrels.

I'd probably get a red dot and a 2.5x AR type scope. Then decide what you like.

You don't have to spend that much on a red dot. The sig romeo5 is really all you need. 2 MOA with shake awake.

Just be aware that the energy really drops on the subs.

Appreciate the feedback.  I was able to find some Federal 150gr FMJ and for subs Hornady 208gr Amax both at livable prices so I have a few hundred rounds coming to play with.  I plan to use my Dead Air Ghost on this with the subs but it isn't rated for supers so I'll either shoot it bare with those or with my 338 can but that may or may not fit inside the handguard.

The Sig Romeo 5 is one that I've been looking at as well as the Vortex StrikeFire II but I have no experience with either.  Any thoughts on these two?

The StrikeFire is more of a combat sight. Think hitting man sized targets quickly. If you are hunting I would go with a red dot that is 2 MOA.

I have hunted with a red dot but prefer a 2.5x scope. Red dot is great for close range but with Blackout supers it is a bit limiting. Past 100 yards it covers too much of the target and isn't as good in low light.

Any suggestions of 2.5x scopes to look at?

Not 300 Bo , but I'm using a cheap FireField 1x6 x24 SFP scope on my 10.5"  223 pistol . Have no complaints with  it and have used it out to 200yrds . Bought this just to shoot the gun until I decided what I wanted on the gun. That was 2 years ago and it hasn't let me down yet . Buddy has an Acog on his 10.5"

Also if youre hand loading for subs try H110 and mag primers with the 194gr lehigh maximum expanders. They are NASTY and my 1/7 blackout shoots moa with it. Would have no issue taking a deer up to 100yds

I'll post a pic of my blackout

Depends on how much you want to spend. Lot of good AR scopes out there. I'd probably look at a Crossfire 2 or VX Freedom. Maybe a Riton if you can get a deal on one.

What about the Vortex Spitfire HD GenII 3x Prism scope.  Any thoughts on one of those or have one, used one, been around one???

Trijicon mro for bombproof

That is what I'm putting on it for now.  I don't see this being something I'll shoot at much distance and if I do I can always swap the Triji MRO to a different host and put something different on this 300BLK.  Appreciate the help and suggestions from everyone.  Did the paperwork on my Daniel Defense DDM4 300blk pistol today and hopefully I'll get to pick it up next week some time.

Got the call yesterday that I could pick up my DDM4 PDW 300BLK and some how this Win 94AE Trapper 45 LC followed me home.  I kinda have a thing for the Trapper model 94's in pistol calibers and now have a 357, 44, and 45.
