I would guess its Beaver. I have seen them feed on blackberry vines lots of times, especially right off a feed or travel channel. One pond I trapped last year the Beaver cleared an entire patch of blackberry vines.

When I was trapping the Oregon coast it seemed like Evergreen blackberry vines were the favorite food of beaver. You could drive a road paralleling a river and generally find where the beaver were just by spotting the biggest growths of berry bushes. I haven't seen the same in WA so much. Nutri were more interesting in grass.

No water den underneath, muskrat?  It’s not a beaver trail/slide. I know nothing about nutria, they’re alien species where I come from. So, I dunno.

Definitely Beaver ......... those thinks will mow down blackberry bushes better than goats and pigs.

I have never seen them (beaver) tear into them like it was candy.  Just similar activity to the pictures.  They seem to just go in and make slides.  Maybe they are after new growth.  Just another indicator they are working an area to me.  I have only ever made one set in a spot similar to what was pictured, they were passing through to get to brush though. 

This is all assuming what John posted was beaver sign.  In my semi professional opinion, it,s beaver though.. Sorry John, I missed that post up above.

Even Saw where they cut some gorse down by Florence OR. Gorse makes Evergreen Blackberries seem like *censored* willow.

in my area it would be  beaver, but i can not see any tracks and it looks to be old sign,,,,,,
I have captured a boat load of beaver on blackberry branches and a summertime lure
