WWA:
Seattle Chapter News
 By Nick Brown
I hope everyone is geƫting out on those last few hunts of the general waterfowl season. I know in my circle it was another year for the books.  The Seattle Chapter had quite a year in 2022 as well. We were able to bring in multiple keynote speakers from WDFW; offer a basic first aid course; and execute our first banquet in many years.
On top of it all I watched several new members come in and get involved right off the rip. We had meeting attendance for the first time in a long time. Changes and Challenges  With the old year behind us, the New Year has already brought challenges to the Seattle Chapter, but time after time we pivot and proceed onward. The
Kenmore Shotgun Range has unfortunately decided to make Monday nights a WCW (Kenmore) Members‐Only‐Night. This put us in a interesting place being that we historically met the 4th Monday of the month.  We brought potential solutions to our chapter membership and let our members in attendance have their voices heard and came up with the following changes.

Seattle Chapter’s “Three Amigos” James Ono, Nick Brown, and Harold Abell found recent success in the westside, December snow!

Huge CONGRATS to new member Patryk Kowalski on his first-ever, harvested bird!

Hello Everyone.

This is Kurt Snyder, Chairman for the Grays Harbor Chapter of the WWA.

At our next Chapter meeting on the 2nd of March, Kelly Riordan, Hunting coordinator for Region 2 has accepted an invitation to attend. Kelly is a waterfowler and will be a great contact for any hunting related issues we have with the Region 2 WDFW.

I would like to invite any WWA member to also attend to meet Kelly.

It's at the Evergreen Sportsman's Club near Littlerock at 7:00 PM. Evergreen Sportsman's Club Website
https://shootevergreen.com/

I know it's a bit of a drive for some of you but it just may be worth it to meet Kelly.

All I ask is that you RSVP so I can make pre-arrangements for seating.

Thank you all,

Kurt Snyder

Last year a Waterfowler that had a fiberglass intensive business in Woodland was trying to find this duck hunting kayak mold a good home. We pounced on the opportunity, and took possession of it. We partnered with our friends at Fiberglass Supply to do another build. We did it in combination with one of their hands on demonstration nights, which was tonight. A big  THANK YOU to Matt and the crew for helping make this happen! Working with fiberglass really isn't that hard especially after some basic hands on instruction. Several of our members have repaired their boats or made improvements as a result of  the experience they gained from   Fiber Glass Supply.
We will be updating you on what we plan on doing with this boat in the not too distant future.

WWA:

Greetings, Washington Waterfowlers!
This past Saturday traveled with John Arrabito (SE) and Art Kendall (NW) —both members of WDFW’s Citizen Waterfowl Advisory Group (WAG) — to Ellensburg
to attend the group’s spring meeting. We heard some great conversations regarding Duck Stamp (er, Migratory Bird Hunt Authorization) expenditures on Washington
state habitat projects. There was also some discussion on season setting, though that will be finalized at the group’s August meeting, and Harlequin populations and how this impacts our ability to hunt them here in Washington.

I learned about how the WAG functions and how it contributes to waterfowl conservation in Washington. The Washington Waterfowl Advisory Group (WWAG)
was formed by WDFW in early 2003 to increase citizen involvement in the management of Washington's diverse waterfowl resources.
Here is the link to the WAG page on the WDFW website, and with a new three ‐year cycle of membership on the WAG beginning this June/July, I would encourage all
of you to get involved with contributing your voice to this group if you are so inclined.  Other WWA members currently on the WAG include Scotty Allenton (SP),
Captain Dave Drewry (KP), and Dick Price (ML). Thanks gentlemen, for your willingness to give up a couple of long, long, indoor Saturdays per year for the
Resource! Hands‐On Conservation Work at the Chapter Level.

As we get into nesting season for ducks, it’s nice to see us continue to do habitat and conservation work at the chapter levels. There is a scheduled cleanup at
Smith Island this morning and may be happening as you read this, sponsored by the NW Chapter. The Grays Harbor Chapter reports in this Newsletter about a couple of its work parties in March at the Scatter Creek Wildlife Area, and the Lower Columbia, Chapter reports on a March clean‐up of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
Thanks to all the hardworking volunteers in our membership. Lastly, on Friday the 14th I had a meeting with the City of Kenmore Parks Manager to discuss nesting boxes in the new kayak launch park, called Tl' awh‐ah‐dees on the Sammamish River Slough — Swamp Creek shoreline. They’ve built a nice new park that’s loaded with waterfowl, and you can find a link here to the project on the City of Kenmore website. I can’t wait to see nesting wood ducks in Kenmore using our boxes with a WWA logo.

 For the Resource,
 Paul McGovern
 WWA President
