I know it’s not like it used to be… but anyone have any experiences or knowledge how it is now?

Had a Cow tag in there in 2019 and saw one decent three point bedded about 50 feet from the road, not a care in the world. Only buck I saw while driving around, saw a few Does, but that is it.

Killed a decent buck in there a couple years ago, but, only saw a couple smaller ones, and we hunted it the whole week after killing the deer. Only took one day off. Lots of road hunting, check those higher clear cuts very well. My deer was in the cut the whole time and it took me 2 hours to first see it!

What are the dates now? This would be an epic hunt if it were the last week of October or the 1st week in November.

Thanks, I wish he had eye guards, from my angle when I shot him I thought it was a tank! But in the end, I'm glad we decided on that deer, didn't see anything close to it. He did have a nice 3 point with him that just stood there when I walked up to find him. 200 yards shot, but he was 30 yards off the road bedded in the cut.

The best spot I ever saw for Hunting in the Green River Watershed was not high up on the Mountain, but instead, right down next to the RXR Main Line.
A small white shed the size of an "Outhouse" sits with its door wide open just a few yards west of the Tracks. Inside are the remains of 25 LB Salt Sacks used at one time on the frozen rails right where the grade starts to climb toward Stampede Pass.
The shack is surrounded by holes dug into the Forest Floor where other sacks had been dragged outside and relished. There are 5 well used trails leading in from every direction and judging by the sign, Deer, Elk and Bear have all been frequent visitors into the area.
Adjacent to this Honey Hole and right next to the Main Line is where a Old Grain Car had derailed, spilling out it's entire load of wheat. Instead of cleaning up the mess, the Railroad just bulldozed a couple feet of dirt over the top of the grain. Now the Critters have been having a heyday, backhoeing into the pile from all different directions and all you can see at the bottom of the trenches is more wheat.
Pays to live the life of the Hobo and walk the Rails while scouting out new Hunting Grounds!

Back in 1991 My son and his cousin took theirs out of the Smay creek drainage, it was where we saw the most deer at the time.

Got a doe permit a number of years ago in there. Only saw a few horned critters, but saw a lot of pretty country!

Best sign I saw there last year was on the very top of the green canyon road. The road sucks and unless they did some Maintenance it’s brushy as hell. The amount of specifically buck sign I saw up there was pretty crazy.

The year Jerry got that nice buck up there, we saw 3 bucks total, all in clear-cuts. All 2 points. Enjoy your time in there, you should see some nice elk too. Too bad you can't shoot grouse up there...we saw probably 15 to 20 in the 6 days we spent up there.

Agree, the grouse are every where! They should at least let us use a sling shot on them!!

When I got drawn there for doe, I snuck up on an Elk herd for fun and snapped the trigger (hammer not cocked) on my T/C Contender on a HUGE Bull. Ida had him if it was legal. Course, if it was legal the Bull would not have been there! 😄
There were sooooo many Rangers running around I often thought if one was watching me he was probably fuming at the perceived violation he was about to witness.
That whole area it so pretty and preserved. What a good time it was just being in there.
