NE Washington Cougar

Here's a cougar I took a few years back.  Rod Kautz of Rods Taxidermy did the mount for me and he did a dang good job.  Long story short, kitty wanted to play...I wasn't in the mood.

He's up in Arlington.  Used to live right down the road from him, it made it easier back then.  I intend to continue to use him for my mounts once I'm back in WA, still deployed.

He's doing my 09 Spring Bear for me, he has done some bear mounts for my brothers...pretty good work.

Rod does D@%# good work.  I've been impressed with all my mounts from him.  He did a shoulder mount on a MT whitetail, two bear rugs and this cat.

That cat looks really nice!  What did it weigh?

We never weighed it.  I'd guess 170-180lbs

I was guessing it was around that, just by the pictures. My dad has one that is mounted in the same position as yours only closed mouth, ears up and tail relaxed. His was 171lbs and 1/4" shy of making the book.  Yours looked pretty similar size wise.  Nothing more pristine than a full body mount of a cat.

Alright, guys.  I'm going to ask my one stupid question for the day here:  How, exactly do you measure a cougar?  Length?  Weight?  Skull?  A combo of all?  Still have the skull, bullet hole and all.  I've never had any of my animals measured and am starting to get curious.
