No, my vacation slots are submitted for the entire year well before any applications are even due.  We're actually doing it right now.  It sucks. If I put in vacation for a moose hunt on the off chance I get drawn, then I loose the September archery hunt vacation slots.  So all I can do is put in for draws that align with my OTC hunts I'm already taking off.  What I wouldn't do is put in leave for an OTC hunt then get drawn for a hunt and not be able to get off work!

What would be nice is have the draws done the year prior lol!
ah gotcha. Can you guys doing any trading or is it set in stone? Our issue is it takes forever to get worked through everyone and we also have too many guys on our calendar for the available weeks. We don't have enough vacation coverage. Luckily we are allowed to trade weeks once we get through. Serious PITA.

I’m kinda scratching my head a bit, very surprised so many say leave it how it is? Do those people think 4 weeks of open period is needed?

Should open it up in January and have it run through mid May.

For those that have to bid vacation in the preceding year.  Couple of possibilities.  Spilt the bid time into 6 mos incremental periods or change your annual year such as June to June.  Or have a second bid time, or allow for trades

If it's contractual get with the negotiating team and push for it to be ratified into the contract.

I'm not in your shoes but have dealt with this in negotiating before.

From the perspective of draw time I would prefer it earlier in the year right after multi season and move multi season earlier also.

8500 deer tags 2000 elk tags and only 47 responses.

Eliminate Multi season tags, Upfront the app fees and make choices on east or west deer like elk.

My guess is that a reduction in the application period will not be considered, due to the fact that a shorter time for applications to be purchased would mean a decrease in revenue for the WDFW.

I retired to hunt multi-season, and appreciate the opportunity.

Do it in December so I know what vacation I have to put in for.

Gary
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

My biggest suggestion would be to have set dates when it opens and closes like they do with multi season and when spring bear was a thing. It makes no sense to me why the dates are floating and different every year. Wouldn't it make everyone involved life easier if they said you could put in April 1st to April 30th? Or whatever date range they pick.

How about changing the multi season requirements so that non hunters can't enter the draw without at least buying the license first instead eh?

All states should take a hard look at draw timing...the demand, participation, and effort/$ the public puts into draw hunts ought to warrant doing draws as early as possible to give folks maximum time to plan.  Only excuse for waiting is the states who literally evaluate winter counts/survival and adjust permits annually.  Many states just roll over permit numbers unless something really extreme happens...I'd like to see most states wrapped up with draws by Christmas...New years at the latest  :chuckle:
