Springers 2023

Summer chinook are fantastic, but they aren't spring quality.  It makes sense, they stop eating when they come in and essentially breed at the same time, so those that come in earlier need to have more fat to survive longer in the river.  May or may not be scientifically correct, but that's what I always thought.

That is pretty much scientifically correct. Hence earlier in the year better the quality. Summers are a really close second in my opinion to springers but much larger.

Good luck to those fishing through the end of the lower river season! My group decided to bag our planned trip Sat through Tues due to poor weather and equally poor catch rates. Though it seems a few fish have been caught lately it's just not worth the coin to sit in the sloppy cold wind and rain. Tight lines out there!

For me springers average about 11#, summers 18#, fall 14#. Fall fish have the widest size difference some are 8 some are 25. The spring and summers seem more consistent.

Made it out today. Water was calm and 3’ vis. Marked some fish, not many. There were more sealions in the river than salmon on my graph Going for more tomorrow
