Magnus Black Hornet Broadheads?
zwickeyman:
Thinking about giving these a try. Any one have first hand experience with them?
70# compound with a 450 gr arrow
Thanks

I just posted about schwacking pigs with them. Will probably never use anything else. 125 Gr Ser-razors. Watch Ranch Fairy videos on Youtube and learn how to sharpen and construct them properly and you're golden.

There’s a handful of threads about them on archery talk. Was just reading up on them a couple days ago

I have first hand knowledge of both Magnus black hornets and stingers. I have killed 3 elk with the Black Hornet broadhead. Of the 3 elk shot, the shots were from 15 to 30 yards 70# bow 100gr tip. The results were clean pass through lung and boiler room shots. The black hornets are pretty devastating to vitals and even cut through a rib. Two of the elk I was able to watch fall and expire quickly, the other went about 60 yards in the brush and laid there and never moved. Also I have used the stingers for years and with the same results on elk and deer. While testing both broad heads at distance the stingers performed a bit better on longer ranges 50-70 yards while the black hornets sometimes plained a bit at distance greater than 50 yards. Although I was still hitting my target my groups were not quite as nice as the stingers. For me the stingers shoot almost the same as my field points. I have been bow hunting since the late 80s, trocar tips were all the rage back then. Almost every animal shot with a chisel tipped broadhead took off like a man on fire. Since I switched to a cut on contact style like the stinger the animals seem to have a lesser reaction to the arrow strike. Maybe also due to the thinner arrows of modern archery today and better penetration with faster speeds in archery equipment as well. However Magnus has excellent customer service and lifetime guaranty their broad heads. If the broadhead is damaged during use they will replace it. That is the quality I look for in a product.
