(continued) The other guys that had went in with us that morning must of been having the same luck because they had already left. We decided that we would just head back down and break camp and get a good start home. About 2 miles out of our camp on the way down we had 3 cows and a spike run across the road on us and I chased them and had a 50 yard shot on the spike, came to draw and never let the arrow go, probable should have, I'm really good at that distance but all I could think of was my monster that I had been chasing. I guess I get to eat tag soup the rest of the year but I have the memories of that nice bull. It kills guys that I go hunting with when I pass animals up but I tell them that its part of hunting and conservation. That's how you get the big ones!!! Its worked for me whitetail hunting, one of these years it will work elk hunting. The kid I took had the time of his life, I probable would have done better without him but he was able to experience elk for the first time and so many other firsts in the woods as well and that's what really made my hunt. I can't wait until I get to chase them again, now its time to focus on my 170"+ inch whitetail for the year.  ;)
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

A couple pics from my trip, we took 178  :chuckle: The one in the clearcut is the spot the 6x6 was standing the first day.

A buddy of mine swears that big foot threw a big ass rock at him in the treestand last year.  He won't go back up in there.
