Another successful Cougar stand.
« on: April 12, 2024, 10:32:08 PM »
I’d just barely gotten home from work and saw that the neighbor had posted on Facebook that they had just seen a cougar 15 minutes ago. Their post was only 28 minutes old so I jumped in my truck and headed down the road!
Pulled off in a small pull out on the county road and walked a short distance in the timber and placed the call on the opposite side of a small clearing at the base of a hill. The cat was spotted on the opposite side of the county road that I was on but I’m familiar with the area and new I was with range and most likely in front of the cat.
She came in at about 15 minutes of calling.

Sorry for the sun glare on the video but you’ll see her emerge at about the 2 minute mark in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Weighed in @ 86lbs and I’m guessing she’s an older cat.

Good job. I have a real cat problem on my property near Conconully. I need to try calling. What is the sound on your Fox Pro and what is making the movement for the decoy? Its more movement than I have with my little one. Is it attached to the caller or remote?

How long of sequences do you let it call for? I’ve tried predator hunting a few times unsuccessfully, but I’ve never just let it stay on like that continuously playing. Great shot!
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I usually let it go for 20-30 minutes before I start switching it up.

The video is a great example of how the cats don't wonder why the same sound keeps playing over and over and over... the cat was still curious, still pressing in, still working the approach the whole time. Don't be concerned about 30min PLUS of the same sound.

I worried about the reparative cycle of my e-call but guess it doesn't matter.  Good to know
