Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather MB
Trigger05-11:
I am looking at this rifle in 7mm-08. It will primarily be for Blacktail. Does anyone have any experience with this rifle, in any caliber?
Thanks

No experience with the new ones with the brake, but had a 300 Win EW. Good rifle, easily sub MOA. A lot of people don't like the stock though. Also shot an EW 308, not mine, that was also easily sub MOA.

I have the Extreme Weather MB 6.5 PRC, nice rifle and shoots very well, sub MOA with hand loads. My only complaint is the trigger guard is a painted alloy and should have been stainless steel as the paint will eventually chip.

I’ve owned the non braked version in 30-06 for a few years now. It’s become my “do it all” sort of rifle, which was my plan since I don’t seem to have time to tinker around with my oddball rifles and cartridges much these days. I mounted a Tract Toric 2-10x42 scope on mine.
I haven’t shot a lot of factory loads, but I do have a 165gr speed hot cor handload at 2900fps that shoots under a half inch at 100 yards most days.
It came with a 5.5lb trigger which I didn’t appreciate on a $1000+ rifle. However, swapping the spring out with an “Ernie the gunsmith” trigger spring dropped it to 2.5lbs, it’s now one of the nicest triggers on any of my hunting rifles.
I can’t really complain about the stock, but it would be nice if they would have used the “featherweight” contour for them. The forend is a little on the chunky side, something slimmer would be an improvement. Fun fact: it’s the exact same stock profile as the one on a knight ultra lite.
I also wish they had an actual stainless floorplate and trigger guard, I may add those to mine someday, but being painted aluminum doesn’t affect function at all.
