Blackhorn 209 Cleaning

(1/3) > >>

Gobble Doc:
I’m wondering roughly how many patches you might run through your bore after a few shots with 209. I typically first do a couple dry patches to remove a lot of the initial residue. Then tonight I first used Blackhorn 209
Cleaning solvent for the first time. Then used Hoppe 9
Solvent as usual. Then went to Eezox. After 30+ patches I am still getting a lot of black color. I’m starting to wonder if I’m taking off some kind of barrel coating. I’ve got. Thompson Center bone collector version. Thoughts?  Keep running patches?

I use windex and run like 3/4 down it. It’s usually pretty clean after that, then I’ll run some dry patches. How many shots did you shoot before cleaning?

Thanks. I had only taken a couple shots but the guess it is possible that I hadn’t cleaned it sufficiently before.

Ive been using the montana xtreme blackhorn solvent and bore conditioner since switching to Blackhorn powder when it first came out.

With my gun (CVA Optima) about 5 shots is max then needs cleaned. If im target shooting and want to shoot more just wet patch and a couple dry patches.

If im cleaning to load for hunting after a shooting session . I go wet patch , brush and repeat until clean , usually 2-3 times .Then dry patches 2-3 , then bore conditioner and a couple dry patches after.

Seems to work really well . Although unless something changes with Blackhorn powder and now these cleaning products I will probably find a different avenue ,after I use up what I have . The montana xtreme cleaning products have seemed to double in price just like the powder....But thats neither here nor there ..lol

Thank you. After all 4 cleaners, including Windex, I am confident that the barrel is clean. I still get some discoloration on the patches but I don’t think it is from powder residue.
