Club drop tine on my elk
«
on:
December 23, 2024, 02:11:27 PM »
Need help please. I got a really cool elk this year with a club hanging down and it has some soft spots in it that stink really bad. I have had the club in salt trying to dry it out from the inside and has worked some. I started scrapping out the soft areas and curious if I should get some formaldehyde and inject those areas or another product? Then was thinking of filling in those spots with something? Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have already had the skull euro'd and have a plan for mounting it after I get the club taken care of. Thanks.

Just let it dry, it’s porous bone with blood.

I have always wanted one that was unique and I think this one fills that wish for me.
With the borax, would you completely bury the club in it or put it in a bag and have it taped up so the borax level is just below it not touching it? Not sure if the borax would change the color? I appreciate the help guys. Thanks.
Yeah, that smell is something alright.

I would cover the bloody end of the club
Similar to doing salmon eggs for steelhead and how I do my turkey fans
Give it a month take it out check it and when done brush it off with a new 2 inch paint brush
I’m by no means a professional taxi
You could always just let her sit for 6 months and just let it dry naturally
Ive had fresh sheds stink like that
Cool euro
My buddy’s son got a big 6x1 that had big clubber last year

Couple more pics. I do have some with my orange on if need be showing I was wearing it while hunting. This one is when we finally got it to the vehicle and I took off the orange for the picture. Those Honda capstan winches are worth their weight in gold. Highly recommend.
I guess I just gotta slow down and realize it will take some time before it’s ready to hang on the wall.

What a cool bull!
That is the hard part - waiting to be able to put it up! It takes time to get some of that stuff dried out enough that the smell goes away
