Fall Hunting Turkeys
(1/1)
Fourteen14:
With turkey season winding down and not shooting a bird I'm interested in any tips / strategies I can use when the fall season starts . i have never done it before but hunted an area that is very open ( clear cuts ) with a thin line of trees where the birds were roosting this spring . I understand that the kee kee yelp call sometimes helps in bringing the birds to your location "if" the flock is broken up . Also , would a hen decoy help in setting up a blind . Any input would be appreciated .

Usually for us it has been a spot and stock type fall season. Seeing the direction birds are moving and trying to circle and get out in front and letting the birds come to you. Or if you have the time see the daily patterns on travel routes and sit within those travel lanes. If you can find a good food source they are using daily that can be great too. Never have ran fall season with decoys. Or generally not calling. Unless shots are fired on the flock and you call to try to regroup the flock and bring them back together. It can be nice to locate the roost and try to see the direction they travel out of the roost. But in general they seem to be on the move heavy in the fall traveling to feed very heavily before winter. So it helps to cross paths easier.
