I can only take duck at a time!
« on: November 23, 2025, 09:14:49 PM »
One duck at a time, but that's ok by me. This one duck properly sectioned out will give her two weeks of feed during the off season. I'd rather hunt rabbits with her, a much lower chance of getting avian flu but right now I'm finding more feathers than fur.
You'll never get a Big'un if you keep shooting Little'un's.

Price per shot cheaper than steel? Is that thing reloadable?

Depends on how you measure spending money.  When I buy a new gun, the first thing I kill costs the same as the price of the gun. Sure, I overpaid for that one animal but this way the rest are free!  That works for boats too! Spend $10,000 on a boat, and your first fish pays it off. Sure, you paid too much for that fish, but the rest are free.

Actually, she could be traded off the kill for a treat and flown again, but for some reason the ducks don't swing around for another look once she's nailed one.  Better to have a young bird build confidence and trust than go for seconds.

I considered falconry as a younger man but moved around too much to ever get into it. Very cool.

I'm going to be you're not getting any younger, so there's no time like the present to start studying for the test.  If nothing else, you'll learn a lot more about birds of prey, history, and nature than you ever thought about.
