| Loup Loup:
2025-2026 is coming to a close. Just about out of time for wolves, and couple weeks left for beaver/muskrat. Course getting requests to start trapping pocket gophers already. Been selling fur and getting some pelts ready to ship to auction. This season was frustrating at times as I was trapping a new area in Idaho and learning new country. When do the cows come off? Where do the elk/deer go when they migrate? If they migrate. How do the people use the country? Many conditions to monitor. It all worked out of course and was a good season. The variety of furbearers available in this area makes it interesting. I figure there are 16 different species of “furbearers”. I caught 15 of them. Badger, beaver, bobcat, coyote, fox, marten, mink, muskrat, otter, raccoon, spotted skunk, striped skunk, squirrel, shorttailed weasel, and wolf. The only one I didn’t catch was longtailed weasel. Very disappointed in that I had to cull 25% of my coyotes because of mange. Hopefully I can trap my way out of that. At least hope for improvement. All in all a season to remember. |
