I am feeling that way these days as well - I would still drop the hammer for that one big buck that strikes me as special or any decent bull elk as antlered elk have forever eluded me.... but I get more joy these days watching the excitement in my wife or daughters' eyes when they are successful! edit - the above only applies to big game - I will still happily pop any predator or the damn ground squirrels that keep tearing up the mountain behind the house! :chuckle: LOL..! For sure! :IBCOOL: |

I mostly look out my front window for general wildlife. These days I don't see much . The story did make me think of all the critters I've seen out of season. Then never seen again. Giant WT during elk season or giant muley during late WT . I guess those moments are when I wished I had a camera the most. But I've always been lazy, always packed bare bones. Was into trail cams, digiscope for awhile, then it gives you the desire to share. Social media and hunting is a dumpster fire. I know in my hunting career,I've let a lot walk right out of my life. For one reason or another, even kept them a secret and didn't hunt them myself. Not sure I can leave the firearm behind. But as I get older , I like to take only three rounds. One in the gun ,two in my pocket, I always tell my wife when we leave the truck. We better make that first one count,if we see a critter that doesn't like us. She thinks I'm crazy. As age sets in ,I'm just so lazy I won't even load the magazine.....lol Maybe some day it might be a camera,I'll probably kick the bucket before that. |

Good "story". The only thing I could find was the same "story" on Facebook, note just the intro on goggle search. I could not find Dr. Patricia Walsh MT State 1980. Google AI was unable to find the origin, maybe I did it wrong. This is to the best of my memory, but, back when Rocky MT Elk Foundations was starting up they would occasional have touchy feel good fictional stories in their magazine, but they would list the story as fictional. When I see stories like these, I think what is the intent? antihunting? 38 years old seems pretty young to age out. I thought the story was suspect when I read "his wife, without interruption, listened." |
