Protecting the camera while in the outdoors

I considering a Nikon D90 with a larger lense.  I thinking this would be a huge mistake to take this out when scouting and in the woods. 

What do you do to protect your camera and lenses?

Twenty views at this time and no one has an answer.  So I guess everyone is using a cheap camera so if anything happens you just toss it.

I usually have a 70-200 f2.8 IS les with a 1.4 extender on when I am in the woods.  I leave the lens cover off and keep a lens hood on.  With a couple of thousand dollars around my neck I am just real careful with it and aware of my surroundings.  Turkey hunting was the first time I had it in the woods this year while hunting.  I would tuck the lens hood in between my vest  and body and it kept it fairly secure.  I have the grocery produce bags in case it needs a rain coat.

I would say that if you think it would be a huge mistake carrying this equipment around it probably is for your situation.

I carry my DSLR in the woods with me all the time.  My daughter purchased me an Armour Cover for my D40.  Cool concept, I like it.  I have never been a fan of putting another piece of glass (clear filter) in front of my lenses.  And have yet to scratch or mark up any of my lenses.  http://www.cameraarmor.com/catalog/For-Nikon,4.htm
