BC CHASER:
Are you taking a roll of duct tape?  If so think about this.  Take your trekking poles and right below the handle wrap it around as much as you want.  Then it is readily available and you are not carrying the whole role or even half.  I would not get carbon poles either, they are 2X the price and are only 4 or 6 ounces lighter.

It was more mine are failing and I have my brothers spare pair that would probably be mine for a 6-pack.

on the duct tape, about 10 feet wrapped around an empty TP roll (with paper towels shoved inside)
littlebuf:
this is in your pack for a day hunt? if so to much crap, here's my day pack

3 knives
20 feet of rope
various methods of starting a fire if need be
2 sports bottles of water
gloves
small hatchet
gps
maps
compass (so i have something to play with when im bored if i get lost)
what ever call's for the particular game im hunting
couple dozen zip ties (they come in handy)
2 plastic garbage bags (nice heavy black ones)
hunting license and tags (dont forget these)
some sort of dry food (jerky, trail mix, more often than not sour patch kids)
optics cleaning kit
two small flash lights

and that's about it, and plenty for a day hunt. my guns don't go in the pack there on me and readily available as well as my binos. an over night or pack in trip is much different but how i read your post i assumed you were talking about whats in your usual hunting set up
Huntbear:
littlebuf, my pack is pretty much set up like yours for a day hunt/hike.  The only things I carry different, is I always carry a couple of apples, an extra pair of socks, an extra t shirt and I have a 8x10 blue tarp folded down as small as I can get it and tied up.  Oh, and always a camera of some kind.

Like you if I am hunting, my binos, and guns are all on my person outside of the pack.
