Alpine Mule Deer

Craig:
Great looking buck and picture.

Bobm:
We hiked in on 14 September to set up camp in a hard rain.  That night it snowed on us.  My cousin's tent leaked and his down bag was just soaked.   We spent the first morning looking for a way to get up the mountain as we went in blind into a new area.  Gotta explore right!
Spent most of the first day drying out after building a fire.  We saw no other hunters in the area and that's the main reason I do this hunt.
The next day we hit the mountain went up to 7,500 ft and spotted and ranged 6 bucks bedded in a shutt 500 yards down from us.  No cover to speak of and the marmots were whistling every time we moved for a better postition.  The bucks finally made us from all the whistling going on.  It was now or never and we decided to go to game with our rifles.  I busted this one, he was the biggest with a 260 Remington in 700 Ti configuration.   I used a handloaded 130 Swift Scirocco to take him out at the throat.
I just had him scored BC at 174.  Not bad at all for a self guided public land hunt.
Thanks for letting me share.   Might as well get the mind set right even though we have 4 months to go.  It's nice to see a site dedicated to WA state.

Ridgerunner:
Sounds like a great hunt, how far back in did you pack?  Looks like you found a good area if you didn't see any other hunters.

Bobm:
Miles and miles!  Up and up even further.

Ray:
Kick ass. Looks like where I want to be.
