Why do bears smell so bad

I have killed 10 bears myself and been in on the gutting/field butchering of another 10 or so. I have never noticed bears to smell any worse than anything else. In fact they often smell better. I really do not know what the heck folks are talking about. Rufous.

I would agree 100%.

Some deer, elk, and most yotes smell worse. Rabbits guts are the absolute worst.

the worst smell from a bear Ive killed wasnt the guts,It was like a strong  body odor,nothing to gag about.Rabbits are bad but duck guts are up there..

Maybe they all skipped health class when they were young, and do not know the importance of good hygiene.

Maybe its dependent on what they eat. I've only killed 2 bears and from what I remember they actually didnt smell bad at all. Thing is, both bear had been goring on cascara berries and thats kinda what they smelled like so that might have had something to do with it. Deer and elk are far worse smelling in my opinion.

I find that if I dont brush my teeth or wash my armpits....most animals smell pretty good....

thats funny,after a few days no shower, one might roll in a bear pile of gutage.
