Late Whitetail Hopes Fading?
« on: November 16, 2009, 06:16:13 AM »
It's not looking too good for me this season.  Granted, I haven't hit it as hard as many but I have done just about all I can do given my work schedule and proximity to WT country...  I think I may take this Wednesday or Thursday off work to give it one last shot up north.  I hear some snow maybe expected on Wednesday morning.  Is anyone else in the same boat?  I hate to admit it, but it looks fairly likely that my $40 tag will become a donation to Washington's ever-prestigious F&W.

Ive never looked at is as a donation.
$40.00 is pretty cheap entertainment considering the cost of a movie, line of bowling, round of golf, ski lift tickets.
I'd bet you enjoyed the time you did spend in the field.
Granted you could hike for free, but $40 is cheap insurance in case you come across a shooter.
And lugging around the rifle weight is good exercise.  ;)

When I modern hunted most of my deer were taken in the very 1st weekend, Mule Deer, or the final 3-4 days.

When I switched to Archery I always got into bucks in the last season. ( opens after late modern )

I'd suggest the Lane MT area near Waitts Lake, Valley WA.

I'm gunna tell you one of my old fav spots.. PM sent...

Good luck to you.. Hope this helps..

Not sure where you are heading but the Alladin Unit was really heating up the last couple of days. The Rut is in full effect and the bucks are dumb and in love. We had snow the last four days and it was snowing when I left. I really hated to leave camp because I know the last few days this week are going to be the best hunting up there.

This is good to hear since I have the late white tail tag for that unit.  When did you leave camp?  Just trying to get an idea of what they are doing before I leave on Thursday.  Thanks

I left camp yesterday morning (15 Nov). Buddy shot one that morning and he was thick and stinky. I came close to one the same morning and he was following a doe with his nose to the ground almost at a run. Scrapes were being freshened twice a day - well twice a night. The bucks were just starting to move during the day, mostly early morning. I'm sure that by Thursday they will be out during all hours. I can't believe I'm missing it.

You should do very well coop if the weather cooperates. Good luck.
