Black Cloud "Snow Goose" Shotshells
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:21:02 PM »
I wanted to see if anyone has scene or used any of the new Black Cloud "Snow Goose" loads.  It's a black and white box that says "Snow Goose" on the front.  3" shell pushing a 1-1/8" ounces of BBs at 1635fps.  Probably one of the fastest shell in a 3" load on the market.  Kents 3" shell was at 1560.  There are 3-1/2" shells that match the speed.  I ordered up a case to test out, so I will give feedback once I have burned through half the case and laid down some more snows.    :mgun2:

Now that sounds like a waterfowl shell to me. Wonder what other uses it might serve. Anyone using dead coyote for snows?

How much do they cost? Seems like a great shell if it patterns well. Has anyone heard about the new remington load that is supposed to come out soon with like 1700 FPS? sounds crazy to me.

think the Remington load is dove load a light payload and high velocity sounds like a crappy pattern to me.........the black cloud loads sound pretty sick though........but seriously if they are within range who needs em.......all these high density, high velocity stuff just promotes the tards in areas like the toppenish and satus that think they can kill at 100yrds because they are shooting black cloud or a pattern master..........get em in and kill em right.......... :twocents: :twocents:

unless you're 270, then you get em in and yer buddy craig mows em all before you have a chance! :P 8)

My son and I got a case of the new Heavy Metal to try in BBB.  Kind of want to test it at some Snows both decoying and passing to give it a fair chance. I will make sure to post up as well.  I am anxious to here about the Black Cloud Snowgoose loads in 3 inch.  Thanks for the info h2ofowlr!

seems far away from a dove load with a light payload

Awesome.  This stuff will probably be jamming a few of the older semi-auto shotguns.  I have ruined a few 1100's over the years by not paying attention while reloading and getting a double charge in.  Had to knock the action forward with a mallet.

Yea, a few times now.  On one of them I heard a week load go off and before I could yell stop, my buddy pulled the trigger and blew out the side of the barrel about 23" down.  The one before was primer only no shot and it blew out where the wad stuck.

I shot the regular black cloud a few times and i don't think it's that great. I didn't notice any difference than normal shells. I used to shoot Kent 3'' 1 1/4 3 shot and i still would if i could afford it. For now it's the winchester wlamart special 3'' 1 1/8 3 shot. They work and are the right price. I would like to know how that stuff works out though?

They should be around $23 dollars a box or in the ball park.  Trying to get a case, I will see how long it takes to get here.

We tried to order some up, but we couldn't get any.  We did get an order placed, but they will not arrive until about August.

Serious?  I don't use Blackcloud much because of the price, but I used it some this season, and the ducks I shot with it crumpled right away, I personally thought it was incredible... just pricey.

If your shooting close range, 25 yards or less, go with the Winchester.  I would go shell to shell with anyone with the expensive stuff and would drop a bird with every shot.  You hit the 40+ yard mark on birds and that's where you start noticing the difference between the various shots.  If your consistently pass shoot, I would lean towards the Heavy Metal as it will dirt the birds at the longer distance without crippling them.  Again the big key to this is how good of shot you are and how much practice you get.  I take guys out that make it out a few times a year and buy the Bismuth, Hevi Shot, etc. and miss like crazy at 20 yards.  There's a lot to be said for someone that is confident in there shots.

definitely... make sure you can hit a clay target before spending $2.50 per shell imo.  :dunno:
