I'll be there for sure. I've had a crummy trapping season, but will bring a few beavers. I hope my friend brings pictures....she called last month to report 2 otter in one trap! How cool is that?

I didn't find it last year until it was over, I might stop by. I know nothing about trapping, but would like to get a fur or two to make some stuff (quiver or whatever) is it worth it?

To get to Fort Borst Park in Centralia, take exit 82 from I-5. This will put you on Harrison Ave.   Go west on Harrison, and take a left on Johnson Road West.  Go south on Johnson Road to Pioneer Way and turn left into the park.
The park is very close to the freeway; behind Safeway. We will have both buildings this year. Also, WDFW should be there in the morning to tag otters and cats.

Speaking of "the whole family" The lake there is a "Juvenile only" water (14 and under) that was planted with 3000 little trout at the end of December...
I will be at Carlysle lake near Onalaska in the morning after some broodstock with the girls so won't make it to the fur sale until afternoon.
I hope they aren't done by then.

two different ones,  I read last years on that link/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2009 The
Western Washington fur sale will be held on the 21st of February at Fort Borst Park in Centralia. Ralph will be sending out a mailing with directions. Bring you furs to sell and something for the auction. Not sure at this time what else is lined up. Steve Brownell is making arrangements so if you have a question he’s the guy to call at 360-438-6305.

RE: Just a short note to remind you the WSTA will be holding our annual fur sale on Feb. 20 at Fort Borst Park in Centralia WA. If you haven’t been there, it’s real easy to find. Just take exit 82 off of I-5 and travel west on Harrison Ave., turn south on Johnson Rd. It is right behind the Safeway store just a couple of blocks off the freeway.

Fur check in is in the morning in the building to the south. General meeting, lunch, auction and bid reading in the building to the north. General meeting in the morning. Auction and bid reading after lunch.

Bring something good for the auction as this is one of our major fundraisers. If you can’t find something good to bring be prepared to bid. Always a lot of good stuff that you know you need.

I think I will be doing a short presentation on putting up bobcats.

Hope to see you there.

Rasbo the lady with the double otter catch pictures is on here as "onemore" so you got to meet her to, lol.

Did you end up picking up a fleshing board?

Did you stay til the end?  What did fur go for?

My husband was completely board out of his mind so we took off early.

I called WDFW and they told me someone would be there "all day" to seal cat hides/skulls.  So I got up, did some yard work, and it was such a beautiful day, I fired up the bike rode up there.  Apparently, "all day" means not past noon to WDFW.  They were gone when I got there.  It was a nice day for a ride anyway.

I went in to the auction for a a little while and I think I sat behind Rasbo and another guy from this forum.  Don't know for sure, but heard something about "Rasbo" when he left.  Didn't stick around as I had to be back in Castle Rock at 2:30, and wanted to take some different back roads home.  Plus I didn't want to buy anything I couldn't pack home on the bike.  Hopefully I'm not working nights next year, looked like some useful items on the auction block!

How was the show?

Just curious. My father traps beaver and bobbies, although he didn't put many traps out this year.. pretty disgusted with how the fur market was last year... got $40 for some of his best (and real nice) cats out in Montana. Was a learning experience.. he didn't think to put a minimum bid on them; learned his lesson the hard way unfortunatly.

No, I don't mean coyotes... last year's fur convention in Montana yotes were going for $5. Piles were going for $50.

My father's bobcats sold $40ish, when the year prior he made around $500/cat.

Yeah, he learned his lesson to set a minimum bid... but if you set a min. bid over $80 you went home with your cats last year: be it too many in the market or European buyers not coming with their usual buying power I don't know.. but driving over there and staying a night in a hotel just about cleaned out what he made on his cats.

I think it kind of discouraged him a little bit; it isn't worth killing them for that price in his opinion I suppose, because he sold half of his traps and didn't put as much time into it this year as he has in the past. I'm sure prices will start to rise again soon.. just curious how you and other trappers were fareing this season.

Thank you.. we make a good team; me on the call and him on the trigger. :)

And truthfully I do hope for that. Its hard enough to recruit/get people into trapping as it is; and while some find it less than appealing its still a necessary (and neat) tradition in my opinion.

I may; depends if I get a job out of wildland fire this summer. That's prime burning season for me otherwise. :) But I'll let you know if he goes. We'll keep in touch beforehand I'm sure.
