The Met ( quick report)
« on: February 20, 2010, 08:04:58 AM »
Took the day off of work and drove up to the Methow with a friend. Conditions were very sunny and water was a bit lower and very clear. Gorgeous day, river  and a great day not to be sitting behind a desk and computer. :chuckle:

Both of us were fly fishing. Pretty slow day due I think to the conditions. Ran into a WDFW fish checker. Very nice gal and spoke to her about 15 minutes about the river. Said that she had checked very few fish that day.  I ended up catching 4 and one clipped fish. Two of the natives were still bright silver and fought well. Using small sparsely dressed flies (12-14)  because of the conditions. The drift had to be absolutely perfect for fish to take the fly. Love the Met. Beautiful river in incredible surroundings.

If any of you get up there check out Tim's Cafe. About 7-8 miles from Pateros on the Met. Excellent food, service and big portions.

Will post pics

Have never fished the Met but am headed up there next Friday and Saturday.  Looking forward to catching my first metalhead on a fly. :IBCOOL:  Any pointers that could make that happen?

Me and a few friends went out there for 3 days and didn't catch anything. We only saw 3 keepers all 3 days we were there. Lots of guys out fishing on sat. and Sunday. On Thursday I caught 3 wild's. All were caught using a San Juan worm size 14 hook. We might head over there for the day on Wednesday. Just below the fish checker thing that sits at the bottom of the river you can walk up the hill and look down into the river. We saw about 20 fish held up in that spot but there was 13 guys in that spot and nobody was catching anything. I think the water temp is to cold. A few weeks ago it was a lot warmer and the fish were biting good. I caught 8 in 2 days but all were wild. Ill let you know what we catch if we go on Wed.

Nice work Ribka, one of these days i will make it out there with ya. Good to see some people are having success, most of the people I have talked to have been coming home empty handed.

we have caught a lot of fish there off of 1/8 oz. jigs. All black with a red spot just above the hook point. Also we have caught them on white jigs 1/16 to 1/8 oz. Two weeks ago they were hitting a San Juan worm really good. Copper johns in a green color. That is what has worked for us. Good luck

Might want to check fishing on the Okanagon River and Stehekin (sp) Rivers too for steelhead. Fish checkers said picking more fish up there than in the Met.

I think need some rainfall, increased temps to bring more fish into the rivers up there.
Tough fishing with low clear and cold water, bright sun plus pressured fish are seeing lots of lures. Remember pressured fish require different techniques ;)

I have to drive out and hit the Grand Ronde and Clearwater too. So many fish so little time :'( :'(

Tim's Cafe mushroom burger= good!!

Is Tim's Cafe in the town of Methow?  Used to be the Methow Cafe etc etc etc?  That place has changed hands often, which is a suprise since it always seems to have good food, just not enough customers I guess.

A bunch of changing businesses has me confused also!  As far as I'm aware, Tim's Cafe that used to be in Carlton bought the Methow Cafe in the town of Methow.  I'm not sure if Tim's is also still apart of the Carlton one or not.  There's one in Carlton now called something like Roadhouse 388.  I'm sure somebody knows more than me on here about what's what now.  The one I am referring to, with excellent food and portions, is in the town of Methow.
