strange color on pictures?
« on: May 30, 2010, 06:57:35 PM »
My cuddeback captureIR has been taking great pics for two years now and all of a sudden the color pictures are looking really pink, and the ir pics are really hard to make out. Maybe the battery getting low? Any ideas?
First two pics are last year, and last two are the wierd ones.

You may want to check Cuddebacks website.  They've got a firmware update for it.  If you got it before 10/09, you might need the update.  Couldn't hurt.

Looks at the time stamps. Dawn and Dusk. It's daylight, but the IR is firing anyways because there isn't enough light to take a pic without a flash. That maybe the reason for the pink. My Moultrie usually just takes much brighter pics at dawn/dusk. Like I said before, just an idea.

Looks like the same type of pics that an IR homebrew takes when you take out the IR filter; they have a pink hue.  I'm guessing your camera has a filter because the bear pic is perfect color rendition.  The filter must move out of the way when it takes a night picture with the IR flash.  I'd guess that the filter is stuck open.  The poor flash in the last pic could just be that the flash capacitor charger was in the middle of it's charging cycle and not fully charged.

Check the firmware update, though.  That's a good place to start.  If not, and it's old enough that Cuddeback won't fix it for you, and you want to dig into the guts of it, then maybe you could find something wrong.  It's a jungle inside a camera, but someone designed it, and someone reverse engineered it, and someone else has probably posted the info on the web to start learning what everything in there is.  You never know...you might even get lucky enough to fix it, but pray for the firmware update!

Bingo.  Most likely a mechanical issue since nothing has changed with firmware.  Batteries could be low; check that first.

the pink pic isnt an ir pic, its a normal 5mp image.  Its also at 6 pm which is 3 hrs before sundown. It could be somethings stuck though. These new pics are with the firmware. When I go get it next time I will check the batteries first and go from there. Figures this happens when I finally start getting bucks! :dunno:

That's what we're saying about it being mechanical issues.  If the IR filter for the camera is on, then you get good color rendition like the bear picture.  If the filter is off, then you get a pink picture during the daytime.  Battery replacement then test a time or two to see if the pics are pink would be a great place to start.

updated the firmware and new batteries. everything seems to be fine now the filter is switching between ir and color instantly and the pics are looking good. If you like that pic take a look at the rest from that bear!
