Birds finaly!!!!
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:20:52 AM »
Hey guys so after a few months of perfecting my pigeon trapping skills I finally got a call from a guy that is letting me trap birds in his horse barn and he said that I have one bird in the trap and about 10 birds standing outside the trap looking in.  Hopefully they will go in so I can get some birds to start breeding for training dogs.

when you put your trap out, put feed and a good waterer inside the trap. Put at least 4-5 live pigeons in the trap when you leave it. You'll get 5X the trapping results faster.

just a recommendation-

I had awesome results leaving the doors open for 3-5 days with plenty of feed and water. This gets the pigeons "trap friendly", then shut the doors. Trap will be full. Always leave a couple in there also.

All the above advice is spot on.  You'll have great success if there is birds in the trap with feed and water.  When I use to have a place to trap, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't trapping any of the birds.  Someone finally gave me the advice above and BINGO.  So remember to keep some of the birds to use in the trap and you should always get more.

Wish I had a place close by  :'(   My one place got nervous about liability and gave me the boot.  :dunno:

When I was stationed in Cali, we had pigeon infestations so bad that it was causing public health concerns.  The dept of game and fish set up traps in our aircraft hangers, and they would rotate out the two birds that were in the cage.  Within a month the pigeon population became extinct.  It was nice to be able to walk around in the hanger and not get crapped on after that!
