I think it was the late frosts.....they held the plants "back", if you will. My plants around the house have done the same thing. The berries may come, but not in time before the early frost comes. Not all the plants were affected, ones that were protected are fine, such as those that were in the wind, or protected in some other way. Find these spots, and you find berries. There are a few out there. Of course, this only applies to this area, if you are having the same problem, maybe you did have the same problem, or another? This is just my guess. |

I tagged mine at 3900-4000ft after watching it feed on berries for nearly half an hour. The area I'm hunting has PLENTY of berries on the sunny side on the mountain...the shady areas are still a couple weeks out. This is the best time, IMHO. You know the bear are up there, so find the ripe patches they are concentrating on. Success may only be a few boot prints away. ;) |

Ive had no trouble finding berries above greenwater.....up to 4500 feet or so |
