herritage mfg. rough rider... 200$ for a US made S/A .22lr/mag revolver....?

im in the market for a nice little .22lr/.22mag and i came accross these guys...

 250 for a made in america, nothing special, fixed sight single action 22 revolver with cylinders for 22mag and 22lr, case hardened finnish, with green/grey/brown laminate grips and either a 6 1/2" barrel or a 4 3/4" barrel... (thats the one i like)

there are TONS of other options, from a tiny 3 inch barrel with birdshead grip all the way up to a 9incher... they range from 200 up to 350+... they also produce a 32, 357 and 45 cal revolver but those get up around 400+

im seriously considering getting one of these guns, due to being made in the usa and the price. has anybody else shot one of these/can tell me anything about them? ive heard good things about this company, but other oppinions would be great!

I looked at them a bit when I was looking for a single action 22, but went with the Ruger Single Six instead.  I spent more for the Ruger but it was well worth it.  Check them out before you make a decision.

I have one.  It is a great little gun.....But if I had to do it over I would go for the Ruger.  The Heritage ones are just not near the quality.  Made from softer metal and the blueing wears off eventually.  If you rarely shoot it than it is fine, but for a real workhorse don't skimp.

I own a rough rider and only paid 99.00 for it brand new with both cylinders, i though that was a bit much when i bought it but for what it was and how well it is finished (or unfinished) i added it to the collection.
They can shoot ok, and make a fun plinker/grouse getter that if it gets scratched who cares.
timberghost72 on here also has one, and likes it, but he also only paid now more than 119 new, that was a few years back though..
I would not purchase it for 200 knowing what i know..

I have one that I paid $99 for brand new with both cylinders.  Probably bought it around '95 or thereabouts.  Shoots good enough to be a grouse killer, held together well and fun to plink with, I like the gun.  That being said, if I was looking more in the $200 range I'd probably look for a used Ruger single six or bearcat, probably get one for not much more than the $200.  Also, the 22mag cylinder is nice to have if you already have a 22magnum.  But if not then they are pretty expensive shells to buy compared with 22LR shells and the Mag cylinder ends up just gathering dust.

I bought mine for $119.00 a few years ago. It came with both the .22 and .22 mag barrels. It also came in a wooden display box. I love shooting it as a plinker and it is surprisingly accurate but for $200.00+ I don't think I would buy it.

i checked with the local shops today and got some more info about them.... evidently, part of the reason why they are so cheap is that alot of the parts are cast...... i know myself too well and even though i like affordable (meaning cheap-but understanding the importance of quality) im the kind of person that could break a rock... im not hard on my things... but i just tend to break stuff...

the bearcat is a SWEET lil , its a little small for my taste, i like the size of the single six alot better but damn... im gonna get a bearcat just cuz it looks cool, i love the engraving on the cylinder...

Don't let cast parts turn you off...99% of firearms these days have some or mostly cast parts...

Everything in the Kimber 1911 line-up under $1100 uses MIM (Metal Injection Molded = cast) trigger and hammer parts.
Seen the extractors, hammers, and sears on the latest generation of Remington 870's?
Anyone seen the new "Remington" 1911?
Or Armscor/Rock Island 1911? Spartan STI? Cast EVERYTHING. The lower line Springfield 1911's are cast frames/slides, and the upper end are MIM internals.
Anyone own any of the lower grade DPMS AR15's or AR10s?
How about just about anything made by Taurus?
The bolt, hammer, and sear on a Ruger 10/22 are all cast now...along with PLASTIC trigger housings.

Anyway, the Heritage Rough Rider isn't a terrible gun...but it is fairly crude in function and appearance. For the price (Should be able to get one under $200) they aren't bad...but I've seen some VERY nice used Ruger Single Sixes around $250-275.
The Heritage won't retain it's value, and definitely won't impress too many when you pass it down decades later.

  But, not all casting are created equal. Remember doing castings in Jr. High metal shop...There's simple casting and MIM casting under pressure=denser harder parts. Then come Heat or no Heat Treat...cheaper guns don't get it. Thats why they're cheaper.

Nothing wrong with cheaper guns if they're only plinkers.....the more I think about this the more I think I might need another plinker...

I would never sell this little pistol, its fun and versitile.
Taking it bear hunting this weekend near Colville so i can take a grouse or 5 if i see some.
Great little sidekick for hikes and also for kids to play with and not the high dollar pistols.

Mine is pretty accurate with all the ammo i have fed it.
Trying Hornady Noslers this weekend in the magnums.

Just remember, they always hit just above the aim point in a 25-50 yard range shot.
Atleast mine does.
Wish i could get a few more of them for the kids.

i say look for a used one... 100 bucks  for one or there about  is nothing for a gun.. I'm kinda more the utilitarian gun owner.. bluing was put on the gun for me to rub off, due to use! If i found one used in the 100-125 range with 2 cylinders I'd snatch it up... Just me...

I have had 2 for some time now & after having to replace the sear & main spring on both of them at least I would most definitely oped for the Single six, I have had it for 22 years haven't replaced one part yet.
