decoy bag
« on: September 20, 2010, 09:20:07 PM »
I'm in need of a new decoy bag. I currently have 2 of the standard mesh bags and i've got about 4 dozen decoys split between them I'd like to be able to get most of the decoys in one bag. I've been looking at the cabelas floating decoy bag the extra large one it seems like a decent bag anybody got one? or know of a better one? I do a bit of walking to get to some of the areas I go to so I like the shoulder straps and the waist belt.

my favorite is a canvas heavy duty decoy bag i got at ducks unlimited but I can't find them listed anywhere. I'll look around more later. it holds a dozen fullbody's no problem, I think it would hold 3, maybe 4 dozen ducks. but keep in mind that's starting to get heavy too.

being that it is canvas, it wont' tear/rip.

I almost bought this one at Cabela's on Saturday but didn't want to spend the money as I'm not sure how much I'll be hiking with decoys this year. Anyone have it? I'm curious how tightly it holds the shotgun on the side.

What do you want to know about bags.  You can go cheap and get a bag that fits all 4 dozen that rubs at the back of your ankles or spend some more and get one that fits like a back pack.  I have all sorts of decoy bags probably 20 plus.  If your hiking into spots I would look at some of the Avery zip up or floating ones that have more support.  It's no fun to beat your body up hauling deks for a distance.

Many of the larger companies out there have there bags private labeled, so they may have the same manufactures or slight design changes.

if you are going a long distance I would reccomend using a frame pack and a cheap bag.

I've never seen that one but it is kinda cool.

Yep, that bag works nice. Shotgun on one side and spinning wing decoy on the other. Only problem I have found is that if you fill it full of decoys that the top can sag to one side and throw the overall balance off a bit. Other then that, its good stuff.

Yeah I bought that bag before they decided to put the gum sleeve on the outside, always just put my shotgun in the bag (after double checking that it's not loaded) and after a few times I thought " they should put something on the outside of this to hold a shotgun!" Have wanted to try it out but too cheap to buy a new bag when mine still works fine
