Blackhawk shoots high

You would think this was the first time I've ever worked with a pistol

I fully seated the rear adjustable sight on my Ruger Blackhawk .45 and with Buffalo Bore rounds, found that at 25m it shoots 4in high, but at 50m, they're right on. I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that it shoots high all the way seated?  It seems that with so much room for rear sight vertical adjustment, that it would shoot low, then be able to me moved higher to bring the rounds up for further distance accuracy?  Am I missing something?

I just read on the Ruger forum that the heavier loads leads to muzzle rise, therefore raising the impact point.  Never heard that one before...

Having owned a Ruger Blackhawk in the wonderful 45lc cartridge, and having shot plus p plus ammo in it I can tell you that the problem isnt muzzle rize, bullets long gone before that. It impacts higher due to muzzle velocity, simple fix with the addition of a taller front sight post. Gary Reeder, Bowen Classic arms are two folks that work a lot on Ruger framed revolvers. The other thing you can do is to compensate for the extra height by aiming a little lower. If your shooting behind the shoulder of a deer or elk, aim mid height,center mass and tight behind the shoulder, if your 4" high you still put it in the boiler room, if your dead on at fifty your still in the boiler room and if your four low at 75, again your still in the boiler room.

Thanks, Glenn.  It's coming down to the wire for the last 2 days of the season for me, but weather is coming in and I'm stoked.  The urge is there to grab the .270 to ensure meat, but I wood love to blast one with the Colt cartridge.
