sooo i tried getting rid of my stoeger p350 pump on line through seattlegun.net and a guy made a offer to trade for his mosin nagant, thing is is this a good trade and has anyone ever used it for hunting anything other then people back in WWII? any input would be nice appreciate it guys

They are decent guns, the safety sucks though, best just to walk with an empty chamber.  The ballistics seem to be pretty close to a .308.  They are a soft kicking gun, in my opinion.  Hunting ammo is a bit expensive but reloading is, of course, easy as they use the same bullets as my -06.  I have gotten one deer with mine.  My two are very accurate, even with surplus ammo, I was whacking bowling pins at 200 yards the first day.  There are lots of accessories like stocks and scope mounts.  Factory stock is pretty heavy.

I do not know what your gun is so I can't speak to a trade being fair.  Big 5 usually has M-N's at pretty good prices, carbines and full length swedish style.

nice thanks man i paid 380 for my gun a year ago and only put about 75 rounds through it the guy said ths gun is drilled for a sight? but all things aside am i going to be able to use it for deer and elk hunting?

you can definately use it for deer and elk hunting,  its just the gun is very heave,  i have one, and i had to sell my main rifle,  so i use the mosin nagant, for everything, (including coyotes)  lolng range shot 200 + yards would be hard to do, since they don't usually have scopes,   one thing though,  they are really acurate,  but cheap,  so think twice befor making that trade,  or make it a trade +cash,  i got mine less than a year ago in big 5 for $89.  they're usually 150 or something like that but once in a while they go on sale for really cheap.  they are definately a good project gun,  i might cousomise mine just for fun,  make a new stock,scope mount, bolt handle,.....  fun stuff,      well basically they're a cheap fun gun to have,  but not worth much unless you're a collector and the gun that guy has is some rare one,     here's a site to check out if you ever get into these guns,    www.7.62x54r.net

There are several aftermarket scope kits available and replacement synthetic stocks.  I would call mine 200 yard guns w/o a scope.  Unless this guy has tricked his out with new stock, scope, etc., it is not worth $380.  They are regularly less than $100 at Big 5. A quick google search got me this site  http://tickbitesupply.com/mos.html  This one even has no drill mounts, which I have not seen before...  I may have to look into those.  This place even has a compensator if the mild recoil is too much for you.

keep your stoeger and go to a gunshow and buy a mosin for $100 all day.

I have two myself and the carbine kicks like a mule, the long 91/30 doesnt.

I have a scope mount for my Mosin, i hate it though and i can ring the bells at Paul bunyan at 192 yards easily with the open sights on each of my Mosins consistantly.
they do shoot good.
Wish i still had my other Eddystone Enfield i would hook you up on an excellent rifle for Hunts, but i gave it to my Nephew like my uncle (fishseeker) did for me.

I had an Eddystone I bought for $100 from a friend, it was his wife's grandfathers' gun he carried in WWI.  AWESOME gun!  I sold it back to his son when he was 16 for... $100.  There better be some karma from that one!   

My Moisin carbine doesn't seem to kick much more than my 91/30.  You could put one of those compensators on it?

Anyways, lots of surplus guns around or keep an eye out for a used one somewhere.

I did quite a bit of work on my Mosin over the past few months. The first thing I did is replace the old wooden stock with a nice synthetic one.
All the scope mounts out there were too expensive so I built my own  for around $5 bucks using aluminum bar stock and black screws from Tacoma Screw. I got a Barska 3x9x50 for it but it put the scope too high. So I put my Nikon on it and it seems to work pretty well. I think the .308 ammo wobbles down the barrel a bit so when I reload I use the .311. I got some Privi Partizan brass case ammo for cheap and just reload it with the .311.
It's important to clean and polish the old barrel; makes a difference in accuracy. Those old barrels will slough off carbon forever.
Also, get a drop-down bolt so you can safely cycle the bolt without scraping your knuckles. I also cut the barrel by 1.5" and re-crowned it. That was a fun process. I used an 11 degree re-crowning tool.
If done right the Mosin Negant can be a real tack driver but it takes some work and $$. Fun project though. I learned a great deal about ballistics and gun smithing.

Definitely does not sound like a good trade to me. I think you can buy those Mosin's for very little money. Assuming your pump gun was around $300 I feel you'd be getting worked on a trade.
