New Member - Inherited knight bighorn - no m/l exp - no 209 - what to do?

KSGunner:
I just received a knight bighorn and I have no m/l experience.

It came with no nipples and no manual or other parts/tools besides what is on the gun.

It does have a bolt and breech plug.

Should this have come with 2 nipples? One for #11 and one for percussion caps?
It appears I can purchase replacement nipples for around $12

Is it worth buying the 209 conversion ($80)?  Where I would hunt with it allows 209 primers from what I can tell.  I would also get the Breech bolt with the kit which would save me some $ buying a standalone tool.

I found this siteby doing some googling and it looks like you all have a decent amount of experience with this model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
John
CP:
The Bighorn is a favorite here in WA because it works so well with #11 and percussion caps and we are not allowed to use 209 primers.  Usually the Bighorn comes with two breach plugs, one with the 209 nipple integrated with it, the other can use either a #11 nipple or a percussion cap nipple.  All these parts can be had by contacting Knight.

I’ve used the 209 primers at the range and while they do give the Bighorn a flatter trajectory (and thus longer range), they can hang up on the Knight’s striker resulting in a fail-to-fire.  It would not be my first choice in a 209 gun.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone want to part with their 209 setup?

Also, I saw in another thread that their is an electronic copy of the bighorn manual floating around.

Anyone have it handy?

Thanks!

It will make you a good gun, just make sure you use #11 or musket caps and you will be good to go.

Why not use 209's?  :dunno:
