A young Army soldier brought this to me after having Stewarts Meats in Mckenna cape it out for him to do a shoulder mount. I tried to talk him out of it or replacing the cape, but it was his first deer and was determined to have it done. His parting words were do a neck mount if you have to....  That would not sit to well with me. So Myself and the wife have been trying to figure out what the heck to do. The sewing is not a big factor, but all the missing pieces are.

More pics to follow.....

I've thrown better hides off into the bushes. Good luck.

I messed up my first cape too.  I bought one from a buddy that he was going to sell to a taxi.  Looked real similar to mine.  When I took my stuff in to the taxi he mentioned that he had several "stock" hides that he wanted to use (and rotate his stock) and asked if I was willing to use one of his instead of waiting for mine to come back from the tannery.  We looked and found one that again was a pretty good match.

If there were some nicks or cuts that could be sewn I'd say use it, but "holey" smokes.  I don't think there's anything that could be done with that.   Understand the attachment with the first deer but sometime you have to admit defeat and move on.

I actually had a neck mount done on a respectable 5x5 whitey I took up Blue Creek west of Addy back in '95.  By choice.
If you took the same amount off the form as you already did, that would be pretty close to where mines at.  And a very similar looking form, the best I can tell.
It's kinda funny, it looks like he's poking his head through the wall, which was the plan.   :chuckle:
When someone who comes by that's new to the house see's that, they automatically say "what happened, you cape him a little short?"   Then I tell them and they say, yeah that is different and kinda cool looking too.
