Digging up bones here.  It's been a year and the recent bear posts make me relive this story a bit more.

FYI,
I did get my results back from Alaska Fish and Game.  This bear was 6 years old, skull legnth was 15.19 inches and had a width of 8 inches.  Total size 23.19.

The average age of bears taken by hunters during the regulatory year 2010 was 8.75 years.  The average skull size of bears taken by hunters that year was 22.38 inches.

So, younger than most taken last year, but he had a bigger head.  I was surprised how many bears are killed that are this small.  With all of the 8-10 foot bears taken, there must be a lot of 6 footers taken as well...

Lot's of headache to get to here but man is that a great looking rug.  Sorry for your troubles but really impressed with the final product.
