Boneaddict their are 3 ways to preserve a skin.
Dry Preserve
Dry Tan
Wet Tan
Wet Tan and Dry Tan are the exact same thing the only difference is they take the wet leather cape (Wet Tan) and dry it (Dry Tan). Dry tanned skins need to be rehydrated in a Salt and water solution befor it gets mounted.
Dry tanned skins have a shelf life of about 1 year. If you wait to long befor mounting than when you rehydrate it can fall apart like tissue paper. I usually have the tannery send me the skins Dry Tanned because it is cheaper to ship. Than once I get them I rehydrate them one at a time and do the finnal fleshing and sewing of holes befor it goes into the freezer. Tanned skins will last longer in the freezer. :)

Makes sense. I've never used a tannery, and always tan my own so I've only had two options in my vocab to choose from.
I was eye-balling the summer sale of Research for a form for my fox. I think I have come up with two poses, one similiar to the one you have there, and one in the opposite direction, coming off a log. Now I just need to find my measurement sheet to see what I can come up with. That one, I want to have him up on a log looking out, and have a pheasant tucked down low next to the log under some brush. The other one, I would do as a winter scene.

How far have you gotton on the fox? Is it skinned? Fleshed? Small mamals are very prone to slipping. Especialy on the ears. Their skin is so thin it doen't take long for the backteria to set in and get to work. So you gotta work pretty quick on them fellas.

Currently he is chillin'

Befor I retired that fox to a base I rode him around in my truck a few times. He had about 6 inch wires coming out of the bottom of his feet. Use to put the wire down inside the door along the window glass and he would stay propped up like a dog hanging his head out the window while driving.
I use to get some realy funny looks. I mean how many people you know that have a pet fox, HA HA. :chuckle:
