randle unit

just curious about the unit. if i don't draw a muzzy tag that's were I'm going to hunt. scouted it last weekend and saw 23 elk and 5 of them looked like there were going to be 3point or better bulls. plan on going to up there a couple more times this year. anybody else hunt that unit or has hunted it before what do u think. just want your thoughts. thanks for sharing. and if you got pics what the hell lets see them.

scouted it last summer, spent some time in there during modern firearm. saw elk almost everytime i was scouting but didnt see any during the season. making the switch to archery this year, probably will spend some time in that unit.

I've always seen elk in that area, well before hunting season and never during Modern Firearm. That is why I have switched to archery a few years ago, but never been back since I switched. Though it has crossed my mind a few times to go back and hunt it, I've been persuaded too many times to go else were.

The randle unit is a small unit I have had alot of people tell me about elk they have seen in the randle and it was infact the packwood. Just a heads up the regs are different in both areas at least for an archery hunter.

yes it is small. definitely know the boundaries if you are going to hunt it.

oh yeah i study the boundaries of all the areas i hunt using google maps, topos, etc. i know my boundaries lines for sure there is some good looking pockets of timber and what not Ive noticed down by the cispus and around scanajwa lake which is the boundaries line next to the packwood unit. thanks for the input.

we have hunted it on and off for 8 years or so. it is our spot to go to if we don't get drawn. there used to be alot more available area off the north side of Huffaker mountain but someone that does some midevel reenactments has the road gated. this cutoff 3-4 miles of access road to everyone. no walkin bikes or trucks. now everyone is stuck on the south and east side of the mountain. I hunt it with a muzzy and there is alot of other hunters in that little area as well. we have taken 2 cows out of the unit in 8 years but that is with 3 guys hunting it.

Lots of elk, very few come modern firearm. used to hunt there everyyear, until this past year got me a new area
