My truck motor blew up at 65000

I was told it melted the spark plug, then it got down in the cylinder eventually destroying the cylinder walls. My truck has always been taken care of.  never had an issue before this. only thing i know is my dad was driving it, and the o2 sensor light came on. Had it towed to the Ford Dealership and they told me about the plug. I am being told everything is new with the new motor deal, might have to check when i go pick up the truck.

There is no "o2 sensor light", there is a Malfuntion indicator lamp, also called the check engine light, which can illuminate for alot of reasons (yes a faulty 0'2 sensor will turn on this light) but it is not likely the cause of the engine failure if any of the 0'2 sensors failed (there are 4 on that vehicle), sounds like the manufacture should possibly step up and cover this or a portion of it as long as all suggested maintinance has been performend up to the point of failure and the vehicle was not operated with the MIL on for a period of time that what was flagged could have casued this damage (ie: cylinder misfire).
As far s the replacment engine being all new, engine is but your intake, fuel injectors, accessories and emissions equipment would have all been transferd to the replacment unit.

I am leaning toward dealership problem, my wifes cam senor went out at 35000 on her edge, took it to the dealership and they at first tryed to hand me a bill for 4 grand, I said hell no check the warrenty they called ford and sure enough everything was covered plus ford made them do my next service on the car for free. on my 01 lightning if it overboosted the super charger i would explode spark plugs, it is the same block as the 4.6 but the big differnce is i was running 20lbs of boost through the supercharger.

The dealership does not have to call Ford to find out if a vehicle is under warranty or to verify coverage. Someone was blowing smoke. A cam sensor shows $92.09 for the part on Alldata and .5 labor to replace both of them. What was $4k for?

I have an older 4.6, and it seems like the lifespan of the 100,000 double platinum spark plugs is in that 50,000 - 70,000 miles.  But if one plug goes down they usually start running bad enough that it can't be mistaken for needing service work now.  It is odd that it melted down.  Mine usually just quit firing.

Since he had problems with his 4.6, so did I this weekend. 2010 F150 4.6 Overheating pulling my trailer on easy hills. LEMON, had nothing but trouble with this truck. Looking to trade in on Thursday.

Update,    spark plug melted into number 7 cylinder       I now have a new motor,    might get my money back if they do a recall.   Not a happy man.

Did they give you any more info than that? Melting a spark plug in a stock street motor is unheard of! Top fuel dragsters do it all the time if that gives you an idea of a "normal" circumstance for that to happen. I would think that motor would have been pinging like a bitch before it managed to melt a plug. Good luck on getting your dough back.

If you plan on keeping the truck you might think about putting a pyrometer (exhaust gas temp) guage in.

I just read this topic, and to me if fords have the same warranty as toyotas its a 5 year, 60k powertrain warranty. I know with my store, if someone is just outside of their warranty like you were and had something like that happen, we would call our DSM, which is district service manager, whom works for toyota, and talk to them about it, and depending on the circumstances, he would make the call if they would "extend" your warranty to keep coverage. Now to go with that, they do look at if you bring your vehicle in for servicing to the dealership or not, if not it does make it harder because they don't know if your maintanance was done, and verifiable.

lot of good advice on here! i would deff be talking to the dealer and multiple ones if possible something sounds fishy  . i know a few chevy dealers who will take your trade! good luck man let us know how it works out. i dont know if its an option but look in what they will give you on trade! 7g's is a lot of money, who else misses the days of $800. crate motors, some buddies and  a 6 pac later your truck was running agian!  good luck bro.
