Most guys refer to gross as they should and the books take deductions. A lot of guys don't care about a book. Also, with your tine lengths mentioned, 40 inch beams would be way short. 50 would be more average with the tine lengths you gave.

50cal..... thats a great lookin bull great photo taken of the bull great mass to him so its probably more decieving than anything but without seeing that bull in person i cant really give you an honest guess with a quartering view i have nothing to compare with in the photo as to length he has a great frame and mass but without a couple more pics im not going to give you my opinion of score but congradulations its a beautiful bull
The reason I posted this Elk pic is because many "experts" have guessed anywhere from 290 to 340. When I tell them it scores 316" a few have called B.S & still don't believe me until I show them the score sheet. Some guys don't ever want to admit their wrong but the look on their face when proven wrong is priceless. :chuckle: By the way it cost $10.00 to score your rack & a extra $20.00 to enter the Wa record book if thats your thing.

Ok I'll play. What do you think this one's official score is?
OK I will guess...308" gross. Short mb's great mass and short fronts. All in all though a gorgeous bull. I would have shot him in a heart beat. :twocents:
What does he score?
If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

lets just pull down our pants and settle this once and for all. :chuckle:

just gotta face the fact that there are more big game hunters that are full of chit than there are 400lb black bears, 300 +" elk and 40" inch mule deer.  its even worse in the fishing community.

John Gierach had a pretty good system for sorting out the truth in fishing stories although I can't quite remember it at the moment.

even waterfowlers have their share of twenty pound geese and such. even their dogs take on exaggeration weight. how many times have you heard of someone's 120 pound lab? I have been a dog person all my life and have seen very very few labs that are over 100 pounds AND healthy.

just gotta take it with a grain of salt, and sit patiently waiting for the day when you can bust out your trusty measuring tape and dash someone's exaggerated view of a trophy against the sharp cruel rocks of reality.

I can just see it now... your 13year old nephew timmy comes over to show you his trophy 300 + elk rack (timmy can't help it that his daddy is a little full of chit and prone to over estimation) and you bust out the tape and score it before he has time to wipe the smile off his face...
"299 take that Timmy!! HAHAHAHAHA"
or you could just smile, nod :dunno: and rest easy in the fact that your elk are scored and others are not.

No different than the 300-350 lbs bears that show up on here all the time. Roll with it I guess. ;)

This is great! I can't even guess how many times I've walked up to the river and asked someone how the fishing is and hear " great, just caught a 10 lb silver" then the guy holds up a 5 lber. "Nice one" I say as I walk away. Or how many times have you heard a hunter say a 30" buck just gave him the slip.  :chuckle: Even blacktails! I think bear weights are the most over judged. I've seen so many bears in the 175 range referred to as 300 it's comical. But, you know, whatever. It's all good.  ;)

I think most guys do give the gross score.  My Bull from 2 years ago would be a good example  gross @ 339  net @ 320.
But the score really means nothing, just have Bucklucky mount it and enjoy.

300...... for your info it really affect me in any way what so ever i just would like people to stop makin them selves look kinda stupid when they tell people theyve killed a 350 bull when in reality it might only be 310 thats all inm sayin
Know what bugs me? People making themselves look stupid on the world wide web. If you don't understand basic grammar, that can't be helped. But for Christs sake, hit the spell check button!! It's making, not makin. "Themselves" is one word. They've, not theyve. That's, not thats. I'm, not inm. And it is congratulations that go out to successful hunters, not congradulations. Wow. now I feel much better.  :twocents:

As I've never yet had a satisfying meal of horns or antlers, I could care less... if you want to impress me, tell me how many roasts, steaks, lbs. of jerky or sausage you got out of your animal. That's where I'm coming from.......and I hit Spell Check just for Mountndo   :chuckle:

I know several people that have killed pope young animals that would never consider entering them in the book, hell I cant even get them to post there pics on here. To them its not about showing off there animals or having a book tell them its big. They just green score them for the hell of it and thats that.
