Hunting the Umatilla National Forest
« on: September 17, 2011, 06:33:59 PM »
I will be mule deer hunting in Washington for the first time with my son who moved to the Tri-Cities last year.  We are planning to hunt the Umatilla National Forest near the WT Wooten Wildlife Area.  We looked it over in the early summer and saw deer, but was wondering if anyone could suggest some specific areas up there to check out.

Can't give you any specifics, as I do not hunt there.  I can tell you that there will be LOTS of other hunters up there with you.  Get some good maps and find some areas that are as far from roads as possible, and you'll have a more enjoyable hunt.  If possible, get up in those areas in the next couple of weeks to do a little scouting and familiarize yourself.  Good luck, and welcome to the Hunt-WA site.  Make sure you share the results of your hunts with us, we all love to live vicariously through others.

Thanks for the advise.  I'm at home in Minnesota and won't be able to do any scouting other than to check over the topo maps.   We are planning to get far off the beaten path though when we get there.
