perserving antlers

what do u taxidermist use to preserve antlers cause i just made my first knife out of a antler and would like to know so it doesnt dry up and also not loose color. thanks in advance
i've always wanted to dress in a bigfoot costume and run by ppls trail cams so when they look at them their like wtf

Taxis dont generally preserve the antlers with anything. If you want the knife to not show wear over time... or lose color and such... you could simply give it a good coat of tru-oil.... or something like that, some sort of wood preservative. You could also spray it with a laquer if you wanted.

wellihave some laquer  and lol its not to good the blade is to small compared to the handle

Thats alright... gotta start somewhere! I'd put a coat of laquer on, let it dry, then steel wool it, then put another on and do the same... after the last coat dried real good, just rub it lightly with some fine steel wool to take the shine off...
