is 6 weeks to young

Ive been trying to train my pup for the last couple days and she's is getting I think for the most part, just basic trainning(sit, stay, heel, etc.). Shes pretty much ADD being a pup but i use things to my advatage. Before I give her food to her i make her sit, before she comes in the house from going potty she sits as well as stay with the door open till she enters, and before the leash comes off she sits. I only make her sit or stay for a period of 3-5 sec. before she gets whats coming. Im clicker trainning her if anyone has some tips or a good read they want to point me too that would be great as well. I wanted to ask, she itches at her collar, is this because she isnt used to it or maybe an allergy?

i have a little coat for my 8 month to shes a little wimp  . Darn cute dog though. The collar thing she might just be used to it, whats the material of it?

Hell no 6 weeks isn't too  young as long as you don't over do it.

Thanks! I do about 3 five minute sessions a day, shes got sitting down now. We are working on stay, up, and come now. I just don't know what to expect as far as progress, I want her to be trained in a day but that's obviously not gonna happen. I feel like she's making good progress as this is day three of training.

If you want a good book on training a lab.  This is the one I've always worked to.  It's a older one, but his techniques are solid.  You can get them pretty cheap on Amazon.  Wolters knows his stuff.  6 weeks is a shade early for the training but as long as you use a soft hand should be fine.  Don't worry about the comments on the jacket.  My labs always have them on in the water.  It's not just for help with flotation or warmth.  It saves them from injury also (barbed wire, sticks just under water etc).

at 6 weeks,.. take it easy,.. let the pup have fun,..  i don't have much experience with labs,..  but i nkow with pointers its cruisial not to start any bad ahbits when the dog is young.  don't pressure the pup,.. just let her have fun with training.  you wouldn't want her to hate it.

I was given some really good advice. It is hard to believe it works. But it does.

Right now you can work on her name and come. Make it fun. Get on the ground and call her name while clapping your hands or patting the ground. when she does it, make a really big deal out of it. Tell he good girl. Maybe even a treat.

When she gets a little older, attach a short lead to her. Let her pull it around before you ever grab it to control her. Once she is ok with that, start to teach her to heal. No more than two, 10 minutes sessions per week.

Same with stay or whatever command you use for her to be steady. Again, no more than two 10 minute sessions per week.

It is hard to believe it will work. But I was over training my Springer. He was getting to the point where he was not interested.

The last thing I will share if you care to use it is, never give a command you can't reinforce. And always follow a correction with a "good girl and some love" when she shows the right behavior. Then just be consistant.
