Trail Cam Set Up

I have a spot I want to put my camera along a trail. I want the deer and elk to stop in front of the camera or at least slow down so I can get some better pictures. What do you recommend I use? Apples, salt lick, grains, what do you guys use?

Apples, but my supply has dried up for now. It could get expensive if you have to buy them at the store. I heard of someone using vanilla extract. That might be worth looking into, just for something to cause them to pause for a better picture.

Salt, mineral rock, apples, cob....anything to get them to pause and sniff. Also, if you have a decent trigger speed and a 3 burst capture you should get some decent pics even if they are on the move.

I don't know if they're interested at all in salt right now. But I will know this next weekend when I check one of cameras. Actually the salt block will have been there for 2 weeks by then, and I checked it after 1 week, and didn't have one picture. The week prior to that I got 700 pictures of deer, when I had apples there. But maybe they will have found it after 1 more week has gone by.

Another thing I have done is to pile up some trees limbs on the trail to cause them to slow down just a little.

I heard that c'mere deer works well for this purpose, heard if you pour it on a stump or the ground they well tear it up trying to get it.  I have never tried it though, but plan to once the bucks start packing again.

I've used some of that Buckjam stuff before...the BEARs loved it...deer never got close.

Apple flavored buck jam didn't interest my deer either.

You may remember I made a Deer Sunday....apples, sweet cob, more apples, more sweet cob, then...topped with a full jug of Apple BuckJam.

One big ol fat bear came in and didn't leave for two days. He ate, slept, and scratched his butt until the ground was licked clean. Unless I was in Idaho or BC...somewhere legal to bait bears....I wouldn't use the stuff. Too strong and sweet smelling for our area.

C'mere deer doesn't seem to work that well this time of year, it worked really good in the fall though. 
I tried vanilla extract as well this fall and went from having two or three deer every once in awhile on a two week thread to about 15 deer and 60 elk that wouldn't leave during the next two week thread.  Just bought the little 5 ounce (?) bottle and dumped it all over my apple flavored block.
